A specialist firm
SH Consulting is built around one specialty: how airflow generates noise, and how to engineer it out. The firm applies 3-D computer modeling and simulation — acoustic, aerodynamic and CFD — to help engineering teams understand and reduce noise in their products. Engine and generator-set work is the specialty: exhaust and intake silencers, the back pressure they add, and generator enclosures and their ventilation paths.
A little more peace and quiet in the world — and peace of mind for customers facing complex engineering challenges.
Engineering on the front end
The guiding idea is simple: do the engineering correctly at the front end, so the client avoids unnecessary time and cost at the back end. Noise generated by airflow is set by geometry and operating point, and both are cheapest to change before tooling and prototypes. Simulation makes it possible to look at the problem while it is still a design decision.
How the work is done
- Question first. Every engagement starts by defining the decision the analysis must support.
- Proportionate analysis. The method — estimate, acoustic model or CFD — is matched to that decision.
- Clear limits. Results are reported with their assumptions and uncertainty, not as false precision.
- Actionable output. Findings are translated into specific design recommendations.
